Nan Goldin

Reported by Elizabeth Rechter

After graduating from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in the late 1970s, photographer Nan Goldin moved to NYC and found the subjects that would dominate the essence of her photography. She began documenting the new-wave, post-punk music scene. She was absorbed into the subculture of the Bowery’s hard-drug culture and the dark lifestyle that came along with it; and by the 1990s, most of her subjects had passed away from AIDS or drug overdoses.
