Y&P Rocks: Sweet Cyanide at the Bowery Ballroom

“All of you are the future of Rock N Roll in New York City,” lead singer Sal Scoca told the rabid crowd at the legendary Bowery Ballroom. How true his words are.

I have seen Sweet Cyanide three times and last night was by far their best show. Everything came together: the set list, the stage, the sound system, the playing, and of course, the crowd. Sal and bassist Angelo Fariello had the crowd eating out of their hand. When they motioned for everyone to sing along they did with their fists pumping. The set list included the favorites, “Red Rats,” “Bad Jesus,” “With Friends Like You,” and a cover of David Bowie’s “Rebel Rebel.”  They also debuted a track from their forthcoming double album that ventures into new musical territory but retains the bands trademark sound.

The crowd was jumping, girls were dancing, and the music was loud. Sweet Cyanide gave the people as the Bowery Ballroom exactly what they wanted, a good old- fashioned Rock N Roll show and they went above and beyond the call of duty to do it. The future of Rock N Roll is here! I suggest you hop on the train because Sweey Cyanide are your conductors. Going home I saw a bunch of people lined up to get into a lounge. I can say with certainty they missed the real event.
