Transsexuals of Paris: “Les Amies de Place Blanche” by Christer Strömholm at the International Center of Photography

When first viewing Christer Strömholm’s photographs, one would think he’s paying homage to 1960′s pin-up girls.
His alluring and captivating subjects have, in fact, a different reality—living as transsexuals, selling their bodies in order to fund their gender reassignment.
Critics applaud Strömholm for capturing the element of camaraderie in his photographs and giving his subjects the opportunity to be sexy and feminine as they wish to be.
“Les Amies de Place Blanche” will show at the International Center of Photography until September 2, 2012.
