Looking to pick up some authentic espadrilles while in Barcelona? Look no further than La Manuel Alpargatera. The interior of La Manuel Alpargatera contains an enormous wooden cabinet on the left-hand side of the shop that supplies the back-stock of traditional, rope-soled espadrilles in all colors of the rainbow. Antique shoe-fitting stools rest in front of a benches located on the perimeter of the shop.

Different styles of espadrilles are displayed on racks and inside antique glass cases throughout the arcaded shop. Styles include peep-toe wedges with canvas-ribbon ankle ties, boat shoes in canvas and leather, and all sorts of sandals with different strappings.

Prices are about 10 euro for traditional espadrilles and 20-60 euro for styles with stronger materials and higher design elements. To purchase your shoes, you get in line and a woman behind a vintage, red cash register will ask you what you bought and retrieve your order. Very much like picking up take-out.

Even though espadrilles can be found on almost any street in Barcelona, buying yours at La Manual Alpargatera offers a special experience with an old-world feeling.
