“For the last several years, pianist, sound-sculptor and songwriter Marco Benevento has been amassing an extensive resume of composition and collaboration. His studio albums have set forth a vision that connects the dots between Explosions In The Sky and Tortoise on one side, Brian Eno and Brad Mehldau on the other. In the live setting, his performances reverberate with pulsating dance rock energy, which has led to numerous high profile appearances, ranging from Carnegie Hall to Celebrate Brooklyn, Newport Jazz Festival to Bonnaroo.

Benevento took a major step forward with the recent release of his critically acclaimed new studio album, TigerFace. The ten-track collection is painted in a myriad of sonic colors, shimmering with acoustic piano, synths and analog keyboards, while the songs themselves are seemingly conceptualized from every wisp of melody, hook and cadence that’s ever tickled his ear. Recorded and mixed by Tom Biller (Silversun Pickups) and Bryce Goggin (Pavement), TigerFace features a stellar cast of musicians recruited to help capture his ideas, including drummers Matt Chamberlain (Pearl Jam), John McEntire (The Sea & The Cake) and Andrew Barr (The Barr Brothers), bassists Dave Dreiwitz (Ween), Reed Mathis (Tea Leaf Green) and Mike Gordon (Phish) and saxophonist Stuart Bogie (Antibalas, Superhuman Happiness). For the first time on record, Benevento presents vocals, inviting Kalmia Traver (Rubblebucket) to sing on the infectious dance rock rave-up “Limbs Of A Pine” and the pastoral psych rock meditation “This Is How It Goes.” Other standouts include the angelic Arcade Fire meets The Flaming Lips anthem “Eagle Rock,” the soaring garage psychedelia of “Going West” and the piano riff rock jaunt “Escape Horse.”

As anybody who’s seen Marco Benevento perform can attest—with eyes closed, smile wide across his face and fingers free-flowing across the keys—the pianist is a satellite to the muse. Indeed, TigerFace, is the commitment to this pursuit; a record that rides the yes wave and in the process becomes a soundtrack for fellow travelers with their eyes set on the horizon.”

Westeros Comes to New York: HBO’s Game of Thrones Exhibit

This Sunday, Game of Thrones (the best show on television) returns to HBO at 9:00. Adapted from the novels by George R.R. Martin, if you the epic fantasy series set new standards for unpredictability during it’s first two seasons, just wait until you see what this season has in store for you.

To celebrate the third season’s premiere, HBO created a touring exhibition featuring actual costumes and props from the show. The exhibition opened in New York on March 28th and will be open until April 3rd. If you get the chance head over to 3 W. 57th Street (between 5th and 6th Avenue)​ to check it out. MARCO BENEVENTO Unveils New Video For “THIS IS HOW IT GOES” Featuring KALMIA TRAVER Of RUBBLEBUCKET

“Marco Benevento has unveiled a new video for “This Is How It Goes.” Premiered by Alarm Magazine, the track is one of two collaborations on his most recent album TigerFace with Kalmia Traver of Rubblebucket adding vocals. Traver appears in the video alongside Benevento and his band comprised of bassist Dave Dreiwitz and drummer Andy Borger.

It has also been announced that Benevento’s label, The Royal Potato Family, will reissue his debut studio album, Invisible Baby, on limited edition blue LP for Record Store Day 2013. The recording, which was originally released in 2008, turns five this year. It features songs including “Bus Ride,” “The Real Morning Party” and “Atari” that have become staples in Benevento’s repertoire.  Upon its initial release, David Fricke of Rolling Stone wrote: “On Invisible Baby, Benevento sculpts his pieces with playful weirdness (the insect-dance hook of ‘The Real Morning Party’) and addresses the melodies and spaces in ‘Ruby’ and ‘You Must Be a Lion’ with heated grace. He can go long and wild: swinging between rude-synth fun and high-speed piano breaks as if he were both Keith Emerson and McCoy Tyner.

Benevento maintains a heavy tour schedule through the spring in support of TigerFace.”
