YandP had the pleasure of meeting the young and pretty, Saadia Hussain, who does PR for French Sole. Saadia gave us the scoop behind French Sole’s inspiration for Spring/Summer deliveries and what to expect for Fall 2012. Read our interview with Saadia along with some exclusive images.
[Y&P] What’s the inspiration behind the spring collection?
[Saadia] Pastels and simple, well made, ballerina flats with a pop of color and little extra details.
Y&P: What’s your favorite design of the season?
Casual ballerina flats, such as the Finesse (color blocking flat) and a structured shoe, the Fresh (snake and patent cap toe).
Y&P: What can we expect for Fall 2012?
For fall, fans of French Sole can look forward to choked slippers, beautiful hair calf, structured smoking slippers and some fun ornaments to jazz up some of the flats.

Julian Ungano has photographed many young and pretty people throughout his career including: Terence Koh, Paz de la Huerta, Waris Ahluwalia, Paul Sevigny, Don Hill, Ben Harper, Charlotte Ronson, Laura Dern and Kendall Kardashian (to name a few). Ungano’s portraits are striking and honest, sexy and intriguing. We thought he was the perfect photographer to highlight in our Top 12 of 2012 series.
Y&P met Julian Ungano at his Williamsburg photography studio the other evening. He gave us a tour and talked to us about his influences, views on portrait photography, and his obsession with drinking Coca-Cola from glass bottles.

Since childhood, Jake Horowitz and Chris Altchek have been political nemeses. Jake, who is liberal, and Chris, who is conservative, always shared a love for challenging each other on current issues. After graduating from Stanford and Harvard, Chris worked for Goldman Sachs and Jake traveled in the Middle East. While they enjoyed their experiences away, they eventually found themselves back in New York City following their passion for politics. Wanting to engage young adults in debates about real issues, Jake and Chris developed a hip and intelligent platform for passionate youngsters to voice their opinions: www.PolicyMic.com.

Young and eager intellectuals flocked the living room with laptops, pizza and beer…PolicyMic was live blogging the address. When meeting Cantora Records’ founders, Will Griggs, Nick Panama and Jesse Israel, one gets the feeling of nostalgia, like being in Joe Reaves’ (of “Empire Records”) office– stacks of records, speakers, Mexican food and I wouldn’t be surprised if there were pennies glued to the floor.
Along with their witty sense of approach and charm, these guys were blessed with an ear for fresh music. Cantora Records’ label includes the likes of MGMT, Francis and the Lights, Bear Hands, Savoir Adore, Young Buffalo and the list continues.
Y&P was struck by their forward-thinking minds, their ability to be the first to say “that’s cool” and their friendship that has blossomed into a successful business.
The men of Cantora Records have created Cantora Labs. They describe it as the following: “Call it a tech startup incubator. Call it a collaborative music workspace. Call it a new music industry. Just don’t call it a record label.” The goal behind Cantora Labs is to “connect the music ecosystem (fans, artists, and businesses) with the emerging ecosystem of music tech startups.”
Y&P was invited to their downtown office to learn where their story began and what’s to come. Cantora Records is definitely a company to watch in 2012.

Emily Bache and Abigail Breslin are the founders of WANDERLUST, a company that specializes in styling and consulting as well as modeling services. WANDERLUST is not your average stylist duo. They honor the dark, edgy side of fashion…think the theatrics of Alexander McQueen and the darkness of Damien Hirst’s diamond encrusted skull (“For the Love of God”).
WANDERLUST recently invited YandP.tv into their home (which is more like one big closet where they share everything) to give us a personal tour. Accessories hang above their beds as though they were on display in a shop. Let’s not forget the shoes; shelves line the perimeter of their bedroom displaying their clunky platforms and other foxy footwear.
The WANDERLUST girls incorporate style not only in their fashion, but also in the way they live. Their apartment is filled with artwork and trinkets that inspire their work. Pieces include medieval woodcuts, swords, drippy candles, and a large, dark portrait of Kate Moss.
Check out the video of the WANDERLUST home, and photographs of the duo from their nighttime shoot down on the Lower East Side. WANDERLUST is definitely a duo to watch in 2012.
