DIY Louis Vuitton Girly Girl Button Down

Louis Vuitton’s show for Spring 2012 was a dream-like presentation of lady-like girly-ness. This grown up version of tiaras and pastels translated into a beautiful collection of pretty pieces suitable for any girly girl. Wearing pink, lace, tiaras, and gobs of mascara is essentially a daily occurrence for me, so I was instantly drawn to a muted bubblegum pink top with an oversized lace collar. It was easy enough to DIY and I am so happy with the end result! Follow my DIY to create your own version with some thrift store finds, a bottle of dye, buttons and a lace collar.

DIY Stella Bow-Covered Turtleneck with Everybody Is Ugly

Alexa Chung (one of my personal style icons) describes herself as a tomboy. She also describes herself as girly. Not frosted lipgloss and skimpy halter-tops girly, but little girl who climbs trees and scrapes her knees girly with sweet bows, flats, and shift dresses with ruffles. AKA totally chic. Stella McCartney presented some sophisticated duds that gave me some childhood deja vu. This updated version of the sweet girly bows brings glamour and grace to this delicate embellishment. Designed for Spring 2012, the short sleeves aren’t winter-appropriate, and I wanted to rock this look now! Try it out on another huge trend this season – the turtleneck – for a sweet and sophisticated top that is perfect for the holiday season! Hop over to Chictopia’s Everybody Is Ugly to see the DIY steps and more!

DIY Scarf Kilt

Burberry Prorsum sent killer coats down the runway for Fall 2011 RTW with heavy duty repetitive buckles. Try mixing the buckle trend into something other than a coat with a DIY kilt made from a wool scarf and three buckles. I love the drapey but structured look of the wrapped scarf with the hardware. It’s pretty easy to complete and the finished product is chic and looks anything but homemade. I can’t wait to wear this with some nubby tights, black combat boots and a fisherman’s sweater!

Halloween is over. So depressing. But look on the bright side! That means that you have 358 days to start making next years costume! I got some pretty ridiculously amazing inspiration from Chictopia – they hosted their first ever “I Die For DIY” Halloween Costume Contest this year to find the best of the best in the costume DIY department and the entries were amazing and beyond! It was so hard to choose favorites with all the incredible and creative ideas. Congrats to our winners and thanks so much to everyone who entered- you are so inspiring and you made me seriously excited for next year’s Halloween costume- I need to step it up!

X-Acto + Runway DIY: DIY + Giveaway

I studied graphic design and illustration in college, and the X-ACTO knife was my trusty friend every day of studio. I went through more blades than you can imagine using X-ACTO knives on books, 3-D illustrations and typography projects. I had so much fun with this and I hope you enjoy it too!

All you have to do to be eligible to win is comment on the post below with your ideas on how to use X-ACTO knives for other off-the-runway DIYs and follow Runway DIY on twitter or facebook via the links at the top of the page. Unfortunatelty the giveaway is only for US residents- sorry international fans! I love you just as much as my US readers but shipping is pricey!
